Meet Michelle

I find beauty everywhere and often in places that most people would walk by without notice; in a flower blooming, an old building’s peeling paint, light casting the most perfect golden glow on a kitchen counter. I’ve always been drawn to beauty wherever it shows up. (Which, it turns out, is exactly what “philocalist” means: a lover of beauty. I found the word, it fit, and it became the name of this place.)

That instinct is what draws me to design and curating beautiful spaces. My style is warm, organic, and drawn to the textures and colors of nature. I love mixing old with new: sourcing vintage and thrifted finds and pairing them with newer pieces, so a space feels collected and layered rather than staged, lived-in rather than showroom-perfect. It’s also a small, steady commitment to sustainability; giving old things a second life instead of always buying new.

I’ve spent most of my career in education and the corporate world, but design has always been what I turn to in my free time, whether that be my own spaces, DIY projects, helping friends and family with theirs, hunting down vintage furniture I couldn’t leave behind. Now I’m carving out more room for it and excited to spend even more time on what I love.

Right now, that looks like:

  • Interior design guides: real guidance and shopping lists, built to help you design your own space without hiring a full-time designer.
  • A limited number of one-room design or organization projects. Interested? Reach out through my contact form.

Outside of design, I can be found enjoying live music, going for all the walks in the woods, planning the next trip, and, since moving from the West Coast, still hunting for a burrito that tastes like home, usually with my daughter Lou, my dog Harley, and my husband Jake in tow.

Welcome to The Philocalist Home. I’m so glad you’re here.
